Online EMDR Therapy in British Columbia

EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a psychotherapy technique designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. During EMD sessions, clients recall distressing events while undergoing guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation. This process helps reprocess and integrate these memories, reducing their emotional charge and enabling individuals to cope more effectively. EMD has been widely used for treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related conditions, allowing clients to heal and regain control over their lives.

The number of sessions in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) can vary widely depending on several factors, including the individual's specific issues, the severity of their trauma, and their overall therapeutic needs. Typically, clients may attend anywhere from 6 to 12 sessions, but some may require more if they are dealing with complex trauma or multiple issues. It's essential to work closely with a trained EMDR therapist to create a treatment plan tailored to individual needs.

Paula and Tolu are trained in EMDR and use it to help clients process trauma and PTSD in a safe, structured way. Paula provides EMDR in Portuguese.

What to expect: your first sessions focus on history-taking, preparation, and building safety. Your therapist then assesses the memories you want to work on. In later sessions you process them with guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, with the goal of reducing their distress. Each session closes with grounding and planning, and your therapist reviews your progress with you over time.
